Angela Wong obtained her Degree of Bachelor of Laws in 1994 from the University of Wolverhampton. She was one of 14 candidates who achieved the grade of second class (division two) at a bar exam in London in 1996 and was called to the Bar of England and Wales in that year as a Barrister-at-law. Angela is a member of the Honourable Society of Gray’s Inn, London and was called to the Singapore bar in 1998 as an Advocate & Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore.

Angela is a partner at the Wealth Management & Family Office Practice of James Chai & Partners. A practising lawyer since 1998, Angela is a seasoned corporate, commercial & finance, private wealth, and asset management lawyer who advises and provides corporate, strategy, structuring & solutions to her clients internationally.

Drawing upon her experience and knowledge of the law, as well as her corporate organizational and astute commercial abilities, Angela currently leads the firm’s Corporate Finance, Asset and Wealth Management and Family Office Architectural matters, primarily those involving private wealth enhancement & distribution, legacy preservation, legal and corporate commercial initiatives, investment design and its implementation.

As an experienced Wealth Management & Corporate Finance lawyer, Angela has played a pivotal role as a Lead Counsel and appointed core member of origination teams in the successful creation, structuring and management of her clients’ deal origination, investment structuring efforts, cross-border business acquisitions, asset reorganisation, corporate or asset securitization, alliances and mergers. For family-owned business, Angela has experience creating private wealth succession, distribution and legacy plans for their business & their private estate across a wide range of investment sectors globally.

In Wealth and Asset Management structuring, her experience since 1999 encompasses a wide variety of investment strategies across all traditional asset classes; sectors which, inter alia, includes vanilla investment structures, alternative or illiquid investments, debt, credit and project financing, agriculture, healthcare, renewable, sustainable and impact investments, private real estate development financing or trade-financing including smart city-town planning finance and commodity trading. In the luxury sectors, Angela has experience in investments structuring involving wine, jewellery etc. including performance cars businesses.

In the area of Private Wealth and Family Office, since 2003, Angela has designed, structured and organized principal-owned family offices and its systemization. The scope of her experience spans across many traditional sectors including illiquid & luxury assets, impact/ESG/sustainable, debt-financing and philanthropy structuring. She reviews and advises on the appropriate legal framework for family office set-ups which include areas relating to regulatory risk exposures, licensing, compliance & governance for multi-generational family-members’ participation and distribution.

Angela has seen the growth and evolution of the family office industry in the region over the last two decades, which puts her in good stead to provide holistic and pragmatic solutions when she advises on corporate, commercial & governance structuring to support financial enhancement, distribution & preservation initiatives for international clients with significant wealth, particularly for Asian patriarchs/matriarchs considering such journeys for their beneficiaries.

Over the last two and a half decades, Angela’s profile of clients include a mix of financial institutions, conglomerates, fund managers, insurance companies, family-owned businesses, (patriarchs/matriarchs and/or next generation) family offices and individuals with significant wealth across the globe, including international family offices rooting their Asia presence in Singapore to have more effective access to Asian assets and collaborations.
